UNC Fans

29 05 2008

After reading Gary Parrish’s article about Ty Lawson and his beef with UNC fans, I came to realize that there is this new generation of Tar Heel fans that have come up and are ruining the reputation that the older fans have built for us. I would say that a vast majority of UNC fans nowadays are just front-running, bandwagon hoppers that root for UNC because it’s cool to, they have nice colors, they have the most pros in the NBA, they’re always on TV, and they’re always good. And oh yeah, Michael Jordan went there. But that’s all fine. You can like a team for whatever reason. I just hate reading about these kids sending discouraging Facebook messages to Ty Lawson, bashing him for his decision to “test the draft waters” just because their team will have less of a chance to win a national championship. Because when times get tough for North Carolina basketball, these are the kids that are gonna start rooting for UCLA or Florida or…maybe even Duke. If you’re gonna root for UNC man or any team for that matter, live and die by them forever. And don’t send those stupid messages to these players you don’t know. If you’re going to send a message, send a supportive message or a message thanking them for bringing joy to your life these past two years. You support the team AND the athlete. These guys need to do what’s best for them and their family despite what you think or want them to do. And if you can’t live with that, please, go root for Duke because you’re better off doing that.

For the real fans…remember this legendary (missed) dunk?

Why LeBron?

Some more reasons why LeBron is the answer for New York,

Bron at the McDonald’s All-American Game. Look at that passing…

Bron at the Jordan Capital Classic. See how he abuses the other high school all stars…

Born Ready

26 05 2008

There have been some rumblings recently that UNC has cooled on a couple prospects to focus on Lance Stephenson. Apparently Roy Williams had lost interest in the guy also known as Born Ready but I really hope these rumblings are true. I’ve watched Stephenson play a few times and with the lack or perimeter players committed to the Tar Heels in the next couple of years, I think he’d fit perfectly despite the fact he’ll probably be a one and done. He’ll provide that swagger that Tar Heel teams have been missing recently and also bring that Brooklyn toughness. He already has an NBA body and in college, that provides such a huge advantage given his skill level. His character has come to question but I think Roy would bring out the best in him and he wouldn’t really get into any trouble, especially with him being such a high level prospect, he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize his NBA status.

Here’s a video of Lance in 8TH GRADE taking on another high level prospect, OJ Mayo, and proving at a young age that he can play with the best of ‘em.

And another video for your viewing pleasure:

Kobe

25 05 2008

I have to be honest here. I’m not the biggest Kobe fan. I never really liked him, though his talent is undeniable. But his viral videos are pretty good. Well, the Aston Martin one wasn’t just whatever but the new one where he jumps over a pool of snakes is hilarious. I mean it doesn’t hurt that the Jackass guys are in the video…well being jackasses, but it’s cool to see Kobe just having a good time with those dudes (even if it is rehearsed and I’m not even gonna get into whether it’s fake or not) and I’ll be looking forward to watching the next one. Here’s the video:

Willie

21 05 2008

Willie Randolph…you need to be fired. Please. Just go away. Go back to the Yankees. You’re horrible. I’ve yet to write about the Mets so far but that’s because the Mets depress me and they’re horrible. They are a team in disarray and Willie, the fearless manager, just makes things worse. He apologized and all that but he’s clearly not sorry. He said some ridiculous crap and he obviously still believes every part of it. Whenever anyone brought up the the idea of firing Willie I stayed quiet because I didn’t really think it was his fault. But now I realize i was wrong and he is clearly not the right man for the job. So please Willie…just go away.

Eva Shot

20 05 2008

That jump shot last night by Tony Parker to put the Spurs ahead five with less than a minute left in the game was an Eva shot. And by that I mean he’s showing why he got to marry Eva Longoria.  Damn you Tony Parker. Damn you.

An Eva Shot

Eye on the Prize

19 05 2008

It’s been reported by several media outlets that there is a possible blockbuster trade brewing between the Denver Nuggets and the New Jersey Nets. The trade would send Melo and Marcus Camby to the Nets for RJ, Marcus Williams, Keith Van Horn’s expiring contract, and the Nets’ lottery pick in the NBA Draft (they also have the 21st overall pick). Additional players may have to be added to match salaries. I’ve also read that the trade hinges on whether or not the Nets land in the top three…which they won’t because they only have a 4% shot of doing that. So basically I should just stop writing right now but what fun would that be.

I wonder why the Nuggets would want trade Carmelo away. He is one of the top young talents in the league and a superstar waiting to happen if he gets his head on right just a little bit more. But I guess that’s it. With all the off-the-court controversy surrounding him, I guess Carmelo is beginning to wear out his welcome in Denver. Public image is becoming a huge issue with sports teams and the days of taking a chance on a troubled player are slowly coming to an end. But besides all that, you’re gonna trade him to the Nets? What the hell do they have that you possibly think you can win with? Richard Jefferson? He’s just a worse version of Melo and he just had his own run in with the law. Marcus Williams? He seems more interested in smoking a doobie than playing ball. And remember he stole laptops too. You’ll get a top 3 pick but if it’s #1 or #2 I’m not sure the Nets do the deal and who are you going to take at #3…the scandaly clad OJ Mayo? Brook Lopez? Jerryd Bayless? Please. And the Nets! You guys need to keep your EYE ON THE PRIZE: LEBRON JAMES in 2010. You have the greatest asset in getting the King to come to Brooklyn (Jay-Z) and you are going to blow your chance at him by getting Melo? C’mon guys. Do us all a favor and just be bad for the next couple of years. Everyone will be focusing too much on Mike D’Antoni and the Knicks to pay any kind of attention to you guys anyway. I know I’ve written about how the Knicks should get LeBron but this blog is about LeBron coming to New York. I don’t care which team. I’m not really a fan of either. Carmelo coming to the Nets cuts the probability of LeBron coming to New York in half. Unless…there’s a way to keep the Nets enough under the salary cap in 2010 to sign James AND have Melo as his sidekick. Then if that’s the case…Carmelo…welcome to New Jersey.
