I’ll admit it. I probably watched about 25 minutes of hockey all year long. And, according to the great Tiger Woods, I’m not the only who watched little to no hockey.
But I did catch the 2nd OT of Game 5 and probably the first 5 minutes of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Penguins and the Red Wings. And I have to say, from someone who’s only hockey knowledge stems from playing NHL ‘94, the Penguins were totally outclassed. True they ended up winning Game 5 but they looked to be the far inferior team. All their passes were getting deflected or intercepted and the Red Wings seemed to take about 500 shots in the overtime. Even the Pens’ goalie, Marc Andre Fleury, couldn’t clear the puck a few times and ended up giving it away to the Red Wings. And to make matters worse, he would fall on his ass while scrambling to get back in front of the goal. Nevertheless, that 2nd OT of Game 5 was real exciting and I was actually looking forward to watching the next game…but like I said, that lasted for about 5 minutes. So really I have nothing else to say except congratulations to the Red Wings on winning the Stanley Cup. NHL, see you in a year.
