The Kid

Congratulations to Ken Griffey Jr., the best player I’ve ever seen to play the game of baseball, on hitting the 600th home run of his career. It’s almost cliche to say it now, but he does have the sweetest swing in baseball. It’s a shame this feat isn’t getting more publicity. Griffey is the man. I remember when I was in 5th or 6th grade, I was watching Sunday Night Baseball with my mom and brother and the Mariners were playing. It was the bottom of the 9th inning and the score was either tied or the Mariners were down. Regardless, my mom was yelling at us to go to sleep because we had school the next day. Griffey was at bat and we begged her to let us watch him because he was gonna hit a home run and end the game right there. And sure enough, Griffey hit a shot and won the game for the Mariners. I’ll never forget that day.

I love Ken Griffey Jr. When I was a kid he and Don Mattingly were my two favorite baseball players. The time my father took me to meet him in person is one of my fondest childhood memories. When we buy a house, and I finally have a place to display all my sports memorabilia, the bat he signed for me that day will be one of the pieces I’m most proud to show off.
