ABDC Week 3

4 07 2008

Happy 4th of July!  Looks like Xtreme Dance Force won’t be celebrating this weekend.  So what went on in this third episode…

  • You know, the show started off pretty promising for Lil’ Mama…she actually had some insightful stuff to say.  But then she reminded us all why she’s so bad.  She always says, “Let me start off by saying I really like this group.”  Not only that…she says it with that blank look on her face.  Can you not make it so obvious that you’ve seen the performances before and you’re just talking from your notes?  Please…just show us that you’ve watched the actual performances and that you’re not worthless.  At least when Shane likes the performances he actually shows that he’s excited.  The only time Lil’ Mama laughs is when she makes some joke that no one laughs at.
  • Continuing on Lil’ Mama and her worthlessness, can you not continually saying things that just embarrass yourself?  First you call Aileen alien and say it’s hard to pronounce (a 5 year old wouldn’t mess that up) and now you say Philadelphia is a state.  And I’m sure there are a billion things in between that I forgot about.   And finally on her, she should never be the judge that talks about both crews at the end when they are about to eliminate one.  It’s painful enough to listen to her comment on one crew.  Two back to back is just unbearable.  I’d rather watch the San Antonio Spurs play over and over again.
  • It just occurred to me that JC from Xtreme Dance Force looks like Johnny Drama.
  • As much as I love all the breaking crews, I feel like they might as well rename this show America’s Best Break Dance Crew.  The breakers have such an advantage in impressing the viewers and judges because breaking moves are just more exciting to watch.  They get the crowd more hyped and it’s just more fun to see.  It’s tough for a crew like Fanny Pak to separate itself as the best crew.  But it is what it is and I’m not complaining.  I love watching them so hey…what are you gonna do.  Just thought I’d mention it.

Now onto the rankings!

  1. Super Cr3w (#1 Last Week) - Absolutely killed it.  If you weren’t sure they were the best crew so far, then you gotta be sure now.  But I do gotta give Lil’ Mama SOME credit…I agree with her because I think these guys gotta do a little bit more actual dancing.  But still…they’re #1 and it’s not even that close.
  2. Supreme Soul (#6 LW) - A huge jump for the fellas from the Bay Area.  They finally showed what they can do.  Second best performance of the week.  Hopefully they can sustain the level of their performances in the weeks to come.  And I expect them to.
  3. Phresh Select (#3 LW) - I guess America doesn’t agree with me about this group.  Though I have to say I did debate with myself a good amount on whether I should keep them this high.  But I liked their performance this week (fourth overall) and decided to keep them up here.  I wasn’t sure if I heard right but I thought one of them said that this crew was formed for this show.  If that’s the case then that’s a little disappointing.  Because then it doesn’t feel like they are an authentic crew.  Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
  4. SoReal Cru (#5 LW) - A great performance this week.  I totally agree with Shane.  They stuck with the theme their ENTIRE performance whether it was the tricks or the actual dance moves.  You could make a case that they had the best performance of the week.  They didn’t but you could make a solid case for them.
  5. Fanny Pak (#4 LW) - They were okay.  I wasn’t exactly enthralled by their performance.  The judges did point out a few things that I kinda overlooked but I guess was impressive.  Nothing really wowed me until the end when they did that grenade thing.  That was pretty good.  They didn’t disappoint though.  I thought the girls ripping their shirts was uncalled for.  I don’t think that is who they are but I guess they are just trying to win some votes.  #4 for the week.
  6. ASIID (#2 LW) - The biggest drop of the week.  They weren’t bad by any means but compared to the other performances they were weak.  They definitely gotta step their game up and be better next time.  Creativity and execution is gonna win this and their high-energy thing can only take them so far.
  7. Boogie Bots (#7 LW) - It’s tough to have them this low but that’s just the way it is.  They had a good performance this week but I think it had more to do with their outfits and the lighting.  They definitely showed more why they are the Boogie Bots and they should keep doing that.  Again, solid but I haven’t seen anything from them that warrants moving them up on this list.  They’ll probably be bottom two next week along with Fanny.

agree on the lil’ mama stuff…she sucks. i understand hip-hop slang and stuff, but using the phrase “y’all kilt (killed) it” over and over this week “kilt” it for me. she needs to be duct-taped.

interesting that you kinda bash the breakers, then put a break-oriented crew at number one…but you are right, they are the best so far.

we obviously disagree on Phresh Select and Boogie Bots, but that makes for great blogging i guess….like your format though, keep up the good work!

oh…and stay off my spurs. ;)

hey i respect the spurs but they are tough to watch. haha. and don’t get me wrong…i wasn’t trying to bash the breakers or anything like that. i like watching break dancing the most which is why i watch this show over So You Think You Can Dance. i just think it’s tough to distinguish yourself when you don’t have breaking elements in your performance.
