ABDC Week 4

10 07 2008

Another show has passed.  The entertainment value took a big drop from last week.

  • JC talked a lot about packages.  And he said “son.”
  • The judges’ analyses was pretty good this week (I guess even Lil’ Mama but that’s because she did a lot of agreeing.  I can’t believe I’m not gonna say anything bad about her this time.)  I didn’t find myself disagreeing with them that much.
  • But Shane seems to think every group is the one to watch.
  • I guess I was pretty wrong about Phresh Select.  Shows how much I know about dancing.  Though I don’t think they are bad or anything, but my comment about them being the best pure dance group was totally uncalled for.  I apologize for that.
  • How impressive was it that Joey from ASIID was able to keep performing after his hearing aid fell off.
  • The judges completely took the drama out of who was going to be eliminated at the end.  But I guess it was obvious anyway.
  • It’s going to be real interesting to see who gets eliminated next week.  I think Super Cr3w had the worst performance of the week but I don’t think they get sent home.

I think from now on I can’t rank by body of work but by the week’s performance.  The rest of the groups are all very good so one bad performance can spell the end for someone.

  1. ASIID (#6 Last Week) - I totally agree with Shane.  They incorporated different types of dancing into their performance…not just hip hop and breaking.  I appreciated the different styles but the thing is is that they still made it fun to watch.  Who knew ballet could be entertaining.
  2. Supreme Soul (#2 LW) - I wanted to put Fanny Pak here but I couldn’t do it.  I’ll explain why later but I did like SS’s performance.  I was shocked that they were in the bottom two.  They definitely didn’t deserve that.  I wonder if the judges caught their formation in the end.
  3. Fanny Pak (#5 LW) - You know what.  Performance-wise you could make an argument for #1 or #2 and I probably should have them in the top 2 but I thought them drinking the punch as their transition was a total cop out.  Even though it made sense with their whole theme, I don’t think they actually achieved the goal of the whole challenge.  Using props is fine but they definitely should not have used them for their transition.  I was very turned off by that.
  4. SoReal Cru (#4 LW) - Another solid performance.  They are good but they need to take it up another notch to overtake the other crews.
  5. Boogie Bots (#7 LW) - I know I keep having them pretty low but I don’t know…I just think they can do better.
  6. Super Cr3w (#1 LW) - Not a good performance.  Some impressive moves but not very entertaining.  I was disappointed in them to say the least.  By FAR their worst showing.

i agree with you a lot this week except for the supreme soul performance…i think the whole “rockin’ out” thing got old, as they played air guitar waaaay too much. there is no way that performance could hold a candle to last years top crews.

joey is just amazing, hearing aid in or out!

and lil’ mama used the word “speeded”, which is not a word…not that anything else she says uses actual words either, but that was bad.

c u next week…

Supreme Soul’s problemo, IMHO: after watching a show, I can’t usually remember what they did. I’ll remember ASIID walking the dog or doing ballet; I’ll remember Fanny Pak in dancing their toy soldier boots or dancing poisoned in prom dresses; I’ll remember Super Crew as super men, or ninjas, or statues–I feel like a lot of these crews got the memo from last season–that memorable routines often have big themes and/or images. Who could forget Jabbawockeez defying gravity, or the forever headspin? And Kaba’s hot girl robot dance?!

Supreme Soul, when I re-watch their videos–ya, they do mad difficult, creative choreography. But they don’t give you a lot of images or themes to hold onto. So, I’m half expecting to see them in the bottom two again, likely with Boogie Bots–who should definitely go next week, as they are *by far* the weakest left (What was up with the weak East Coast crews this year?). After that? Who knows who’ll go!
